| Melilla la Vieja is a large fortress located just north of the port of Melilla, one of Spain's Plaza de soberanía (ruling fortresses) on the North African coast. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, much of the fortress has been restored in recent years. The fortress contains many of Melilla's most important historical monuments. | |
