| The overhead cargo room at Callahan Station became the museum's main exhibition area, while the central room, formerly the ticket and cashier offices, was temporarily used as storage. Over time, the society received a grant to purchase museum software for storing and tracking the collection. | |
| After many years of dedicated work by the Nassau County Historical Research and Collection Society, an opportunity arose to take a major step forward when a railroad memorabilia collector contacted the society seeking a permanent display space for his collection. The members unanimously agreed to accept the gift, and the museum was officially established. This took place in the fall of 2008. | |
