Mount Misen Hatsukaichi, Japan Last Updated: 04/03/2026 |
| Mount Misen is a sacred mountain on the sacred island of Itsukushima, located in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Japan. At 500 meters above sea level, Mount Misen is the highest peak on Miyajima Island. On clear days, it offers spectacular views of the Seto Inland Sea and, further afield, the city of Hiroshima. Several Buddhist structures are also located near the summit. | |
| There are three hiking routes leading up to Misen: the Momijidani route, the Daisho-in route, and the Omoto route. Of the three, the Daisho-in route offers the best views and is less steep than the other two. The Momijidani route, while the shortest, is also the steepest, mostly traversing through the forest. Following any route, it takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to reach the summit from the town. Even with the cable car, reaching the various attractions of Misen still requires a considerable amount of walking, as the summit is still about 100 meters high and is about one kilometer from the upper cable car station near the Shishi-iwa Observatory. | |
