| The city's most famous landmark is the Potala Palace, which was the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan uprising. Lhasa has a high altitude of over 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) and a cold and dry climate. The best time to visit is from April to October when the weather is relatively mild.
