There are two base camps: South Base Camp is in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metres (17,598 ft), while North Base Camp is in Tibet at 5,150 metres (16,900 ft). For many trekkers, the South Base Camp trek is a popular and challenging adventure and can only be reached on foot.

Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest glacier and the largest glacier of Nepal stand at an elevation of 4,900m at its terminus and 7,600m at its source. It is a large debris-covered glacier which lies in between Mt Everest and Lhotse-Nuptse ridge in the Khumbu region. To the right side of the glacier, there is Everest Base Camp, where thousands of trekkers are lured to visit every year.
