Rifle River Recreation Area is a state park located on the upper reaches of the Rifle River within the Au Sable State Forest in Ogemaw County, Michigan. Within these 4,000 acres of state park land, you’ll find amazing areas for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and lots of lakeside camping spots to make for an unforgettable weekend excursion!
Rifle River Recreation Area includes 159 campsites, several hiking trails and lakes within the area to enjoy. Within the watershed are two more state forest campgrounds, Rifle River and Hardwood Lake State Forest, each equipped with additional camping spots.

Rifle River is where all the action happens. 14 miles of pathways for hiking, biking, or even snowboarding and skiing in the winter. Lots of trout and fly-fishing opportunities. Thousands of canoers travel down peaceful sections of Rifle River each summer. Bolder, braver adventurers take on kayaking the entire river! There’s a lot you can fill a weekend with in Rifle River Recreation Area.
