Our Lady of Joy Abbey, located in Tai Shui Hang on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, is a Roman Catholic monastery belonging to the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance, commonly known as the Trappists. Originally founded as Trappist Haven Monastery in 1956, it was established by monks fleeing the Chinese Communist Revolution after their previous monasteries in mainland China were destroyed or abandoned.
Origins: The abbey's founders were refugees from two earlier monasteries in Hebei and Sichuan provinces that faced persecution during the mid-20th century. They were invited to establish a new community in Hong Kong by local authorities and the Catholic bishop. The abbey features a simple stone chapel, reflecting the Trappist values of austerity and contemplation. It is well-known for its dairy products, particularly Trappist milk, although production has since moved to Yuen Long.

The abbey serves as a pilgrimage site, especially during significant religious events like Good Friday, where visitors participate in the Way of the Cross along a scenic hiking path lined with Stations of the Cross.
