Erdene Zuu Monastery is a historic Buddhist monastery located in Kharkhorin, Mongolia. The monastery was built in 1586 by Abtai Sain Khan, the ruler of the Khalkha Mongols, and is considered to be the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia.
Karakorum (also spelled Karakorum or Kharkhorin) is a historic city located in the Orkhon Valley in central Mongolia. The city was founded in the 13th century by the legendary Mongol ruler Genghis Khan, and later became the capital of the Mongol Empire between 1235 and 1260 under his grandson, Ögedei Khan.
