Norfolk is an independent city located in southeastern Virginia, in the Hampton Roads region, at the southeastern tip of the Virginia Peninsula. It is bordered by the Chesapeake Bay to the north and the Elizabeth River to the west and south. The city is part of the larger Hampton Roads metropolitan area. In 2019, the population was estimated to be 242,742.
