Three Rivers Petroglyph Site 455 3 Rivers Rd, Tularosa, NM 88352 Last Updated: 01/11/2026 |
| The Three Rivers rock carvings are outstanding examples of prehistoric rock art from the Jornada Mogollon people. The basalt mountain range rising above the Three Rivers Valley contains over 21,000 rock carvings, including masks, sunbursts, wildlife, handprints, and geometric patterns. The sheer number and density of the carvings make this one of the largest and most interesting rock art sites in the American Southwest. | |
| A rugged 0.5-mile trail (the Rock Carvings Trail) begins at the visitor rest area and connects many of the most interesting rock carvings. Another shorter trail (the Village Trail) starts east of the picnic area and leads to a partially excavated prehistoric village. | |
