Tisey Estanzuela Natural Reserve is rated as one of the protected areas of Nicaragua due to its natural beauty and biodiversity.
The beautiful Tisey-Estanzuela natural reserve is situated approximately 10 kilometers south of the city of Esteli and about 140 kilometers north of Managua in northern Nicaragua. Rated as one of the protected areas of Nicaragua due to its natural beauty and biodiversity, the Tisey-Estanzuela natural reserve is a highly recommended tourist destination. This 9,344-hectare pine-forested reserve is home to over 100 species of flora and fauna.

El Salto, the region’s most famous swimming hole, is located within the Tisey-Estanzuela natural reserve. A 15 meter high waterfall plunges into a cold-water pool surrounded by lush and colorful indigenous flora. Swimming behind the waterfall is an experience that gives visitors a whole new perspective of the beauty of nature. The reserve has a rustic eco-lodge as well as a network of hiking and horse-back trails. From the top of the volcano-formed hills, the incredible panoramic view of the verdant surroundings will not easily be forgotten. On a clear day it is possible to see the Pacific coastal plain as well as a magnificent range of volcanic peaks. A guide will show tourists the best lookout points as well as other places of interest, such as a cave that is home to more than 10,000 bats which visitors may enter if they dare.
