Dien Bien is a province located in the far northwest of Vietnam, sharing borders with Laos and China. It is about 490 kilometers (305 miles) west of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The province covers an area of 9,541 square kilometres and as of 2019 it had a population of 598,856 people.

A Pa Chai is a mountainous commune located in Sa­n Thau valley, Muong Nha District, Dien Bien province, Vietnam. The village is situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level and is considered the highest peak in Indochina's northwest region.

Đèo Pha Đin is a mountain pass located in Dien Bien province, Vietnam. It is situated on National Route 12, which connects the city of Dien Bien Phu with Tuan Giao, Son La province. Pha Din pass is 32km long, at an elevation of 1,648m above the sea level.

The French Commander Bunker of Dien Bien Phu is a historic site located in Thanh Truong Ward, Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province, Vietnam. The bunker was a strategic location during the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, which was fought between French forces and the Viet Minh in 1954.

As parts of Pa Thom commune, the spectacular Pa Thom Cave (Hang Dong Pa Thom) is situated in the West of Dien Bien District, adjoining the border between Vietnam and Laos. Interestingly, the local people usually call the cave as Tham Nang Lai which means the Full-of-Fairies Cave in Vietnamese language.
