Oceano is a census-designated place in San Luis Obispo County, California. It sits at an elevation of 30 ft (9 m). The population was 7,183 at the 2020 census, down from 7,286 at the 2010 census. The Highway 1 coastal community of Oceano is home to the only beach in the whole entire state that you can drive on. Oceano Dunes Pole 2 in Oceano, CA, refers to a specific location on the beach that marks the beginning of the off-highway vehicle (OHV) area at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA). It is located about one mile south of Pier Avenue on the beach. All OHVs must be transported to this point before off-loading to ride in the designated OHV area.

Oceano Campground - Pismo State Beach offers all kinds of attractions: hiking, swimming, surf fshing, kite surfng and horseback riding. It is also the only beach in California where it is permitted to drive a vehicle along the shore.
