The Ryūga Cave is a limestone cave located in Kami City, Kōchi Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the three largest limestone caves in Japan, with a total length of 4 kilometers. The cave has been designated as a National Natural monument of Japan.
One of Japan’s three largest limestone caves, Ryugado which means “dragon river cave” was formed over the course of 175 million years. The entirety of the cave is approximately 4 km long, with about 1 km that is open to the general public.

This otherworldly cave’s twists and turns reveal stalactites and stalagmites of all sizes. It was designated a Natural Monument of Japan in 1934 for both these stunning formations and the 100 different animals that make their home in this unique environment, as well as a Historic Site for the vessels from the Yayoi period (300 BCE- 250 CE) discovered here.
