| The temple has a history spanning over a century. It was initially built around 1904 by the Venerable Thích Trí Lượng using simple materials like bamboo and leaves. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations and expansions, particularly in 1925 and 2007, to become the grand structure it is today. The temple showcases a unique blend of Eastern and Western architectural styles. Its main hall is covered with hooked roof tiles, and the main entrance is designed in the shape of a vaulted arch, reminiscent of a Christian church. This fusion of styles gives the temple a distinctive and captivating appearance. One of the most notable features of Chùa Gò Kén is its large statues. The temple grounds house a 25-meter-tall statue of Quan Âm Bồ Tát standing on a 7-meter-tall dragon, and a 25-meter-long statue of the Reclining Buddha. These statues are among the largest in the Southeast region of Vietnam and are significant attractions for visitors. Chùa Gò Kén is not only a place of worship but also a center for Buddhist cultural activities. It attracts numerous pilgrims and tourists who come to experience its serene environment and participate in various religious ceremonies. The temple played a crucial role in the early development of the Cao Đài religion. From October 1926 to January 1927, it served as the venue for the founding ceremonies of Cao Đài, a syncretic Vietnamese religious movement. | |
