The Persian Gulf, also sometimes called the Arabian Gulf, is a body of water located in Western Asia. It is an extension of the Indian Ocean that lies between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. The Persian Gulf is bordered by eight countries: Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
The Persian Gulf is a vital waterway for global trade, as it carries a significant portion of the world's oil shipments. The region is also home to some of the world's largest oil and natural gas reserves. The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, is a critical chokepoint for oil transport.
