| The mountain is named after President William McKinley, who was assassinated in 1901. However, the mountain has long been known as Denali, which means "the high one" in the Athabaskan language of the indigenous people of the region. Mount McKinley is a popular destination for mountaineers, with several climbing routes to the summit. The climb is considered one of the most challenging in the world, with extreme weather conditions and technical challenges. The mountain and the surrounding area are also home to a diverse range of wildlife, including grizzly bears, caribou, moose, and Dall sheep. Visitors to the area can take guided tours, go hiking or backpacking, and explore the park's many trails and scenic vistas. Denali National Park and Preserve is located about 240 miles (390 kilometers) north of Anchorage and can be accessed by car or bus.
