Pioneer Park, the five-acre park that surrounds Coit Tower, was created as a result of a great storm. In 1870, torrential rain and high winds destroyed the old signal station at the summit of Telegraph Hill, leaving four hilltop lots vacant.

The park facilities consist of only a set of two stairways, one with mosaic tiles, and a lone bench at the peak of the hill. However, the park is home to many rare, endangered dune plants and offers an incredible panoramic view extending on a clear day from the downtown skyline to the Farallones Islands over the Pacific. It's well worth the steep hike to the top!

The Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve is a natural area located on Mount Sutro, which is part of the San Francisco Peninsula. It is bordered by the neighborhoods of Inner Sunset, Forest Knolls, and Cole Valley. It is a lush and scenic urban forest that provides a peaceful escape from the bustling city.

Billy Goat Hill has amazing views of the city and bay, and a mix of urban forest and grassland plant communities. American kestrels and other raptors often soar overhead, hunting small mammals and reptiles. As rodents scurry through grasslands, they mark their trails with urine, which absorbs ultraviolet light.

To experience a brightly colored extravaganza of color, the tulips and other blooms at the Queen Wihelmina Tulip Garden at the Golden Gate Park provide the perfect accompaniment for the imposing Dutch Windmill, which has become a popular sight among visitors. Situated on John F. Kennedy Drive, located near Great Highway, the Tulip Garden bears the name of the late queen of the Netherlands.

Sutro Heights Park is an historic public park in the Outer Richmond District of western San Francisco, California. It is within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and the Sutro Historic District. It is located above the Cliff House in the Lands End area, with views of the Seal Rocks, Ocean Beach, and the Pacific Ocean.

The Lincoln Park Steps sit at the edge of Lincoln Park on the Western end of California Street and date back to the early 1900’s. In 2007, Friends of Lincoln Park founders, Anna Yatroussis and Meg Autry, had the vision for a complete design and structural renovation of the Lincoln Park steps, an iconic staircase that had seen decades of neglect and decay.

Tank Hill Park is located in San Francisco near the intersection of Clayton Street and Twin Peaks Boulevard, which circumscribes the hill to the south and east. A rocky outcropping defines the north side, which falls in cliffs to houses below.

Ocean Beach is 3.5-mile white sand beach on the west coast of San Francisco, California, bordering the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular spot for flying kites and windsurfing.
