Lake Tuscaloosa is a reservoir in west-central Alabama, created by damming the North River. The lake provides water for the residents of Tuscaloosa and for industrial purposes. Construction was completed in 1970 at a cost of approximately $7,725,000. Located just north of Tuscaloosa and Northport, the lake is also popular for recreational activities.
Fisheries: The most popular sport fish in Lake Tuscaloosa include the Alabama spotted bass, the broadmouth bass, the blue tilapia, the red-eared tilapia, and the white tilapia. Popular non-sport fish include the blue catfish, the canal catfish, the freshwater perch, the black carp, and the common carp. Common feeder fish in the lake include the sardine and the spiny-finned sardine, along with various small fish and minnows.
