Mendocino County is a picturesque region located along the northern coast of California. It is known for its rugged coastline, lush forests, and vibrant local culture. It covers an area of approximately 3,878 square miles. As of the 2020 census, the population was 91,601. The county seat is Ukiah.

Van Damme State Park consists of about 1831acre of land in Mendocino County, California, near the town of Little River on State Route 1. The greater part of the park lies on the inland side of State Route 1 and includes ten miles of hiking trails along the Little River and campsites rated by the Guardian as one of the ten best on the West Coast.

This trail is about 0.5 miles long and leads hikers to the awesome Little River Blowhole and beyond to the bluff edge. The Little River Blowhole is actually a punchbowl, or sinkhole, and is an actively eroding area; almost every winter, full-grown trees fall into the abyss.
