Joya de Ceren is an archaeological site located in El Salvador, Central America. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is sometimes referred to as the "Pompeii of the Americas" because of its well-preserved ancient ruins.
The site was discovered in 1976 during the construction of a water project and was subsequently excavated by archaeologists. The site is believed to have been a farming village inhabited by the Maya people around AD 600. The site was buried by volcanic ash from the eruption of the nearby Loma Caldera volcano, which helped to preserve the structures and artifacts.

The site contains a number of buildings, including houses, a marketplace, a religious structure, and a sauna. The buildings are made of adobe and were built around a central plaza. The buildings contain many artifacts, including household items, farming tools, and pottery.

Joya de Ceren provides a unique glimpse into the daily lives of the ancient Maya people and is an important site for understanding their culture and history.
