Gandantegchinlen Monastery, also known as Gandan Monastery, is a Tibetan-style Buddhist monastery located in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. The name Gandantegchinlen means "the great place of complete joy" in Mongolian.
The monastery was originally built in 1838 and has been destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history. It is now one of the largest and most important monasteries in Mongolia, and serves as the center of Mongolian Buddhism.

The main attraction of the monastery is the 26-meter (85-foot) tall statue of Megjid Janraisig, also known as Avalokitesvara or the Buddha of Compassion. The statue is gilded with gold and adorned with precious stones, and is the largest indoor statue in Mongolia.

Visitors can also explore the monastery's various temples, including the Lavrin Temple which contains an impressive collection of Buddhist scriptures and a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. The monastery also offers daily religious services and ceremonies, including chanting and meditation.

In addition to its religious significance, Gandantegchinlen Monastery is also an important cultural and historical landmark in Mongolia. It has survived the country's turbulent history, including the purges of the 1930s when many monasteries were destroyed, and has become a symbol of the resilience of Mongolian Buddhism.
