Boc Pagoda (Chua Boc)
Boc Pagodaalso named Sung Phuc Tu or Thien Phuc Tu, is located in Chua Boc Street, Khuong Thuong Precinct, Dong Da District, Hanoi. The name Boc recalls the corpses of the Qing aggressors in this areaafter the Dong Davictory. From the city center, following the streets of Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Luong Bang and Tay Son, pass Dong Da Mound, Chua Boc Street is on the left hand side. Boc Pagodawas built under the Hau Le Dynasty and completely destroyed in the Dong Dabattle in 1789. In 1792, under the reign of King Canh Thinh, the monk lived in the pagoda and villagers reconstructed it to honor Buddhaand the Qing officers and soldiers died in the 1789 battle. The three-gate entrance is atwo stories sizeable construction, which is eight-meter high. After the entrance, there are three stele pavilions and two stupas on the pagodacourtyard. On the right side of the yard is ahall displaying articles and documents on the Dong Davictory including the Proclamation of King Quang Trung while approaching the north to fight the Qing aggressors, the mock-up of the Dong Dabattle and the weapons used during the Tay Son Dynasty. The main pagoda, built in the shape of the Chinese character Jing ( ), comprises afront hall and arear house. The main door leading to the front hall flanks by the statues of stone elephant and ceramic crocodile. On the left of the front hall are five statues of Kings of Hell and astatue of Boddhisattva. There is also astatue Duc Ong believed to be Quang Trung since on the back of it write the six character Binh Ngo tao Quang Trung tuong which means the statue of Quang Trung carved in the year Binh Ngo. Buddhist statues of Sakyamuni, Maitreyaand Boddisattvaare in the rear house.

Boc Pagodahas precious sacred objects such as horizontal boards and parallel sentences. In the hall where the statue of Duc Ong is placed, there is ahorizontal board with four characters mean overpowering majesty (Uy phong lam liet) and parallel sentences read: �The gate is separated from the earth, but the foundation still remains with the country. Brightness changed to Buddha, the wind and cloud moved the whole world.� In the pagoda, there are three ancient stone steles erected: Vinh Tri 1 (1676), Chinh Hoa7(1686) and Quang Trung (1792) and abell cast under the reign of King Canh Thinh. Apart from the main pagoda, there are apatriarch house, amother goddess house, aresidence of monks, aguesthouse, abig garden and alake. Boc Pagoda, together with surrounding places of Dong Da Mound, Trung Liet Mound, Dong Thieng Mound, Dau Lau Mound, Cay Co Mound, Dong Quang Pagodaand Thanh Shrine, is apart of the Dong Da historical vestige engraving the victory of the Tay Son insurgent army against the Qing invaders in 1789.
