Built in 1984 by Unocal Corp. to facilitate oil transport on the U.S. West Coast, the Cal Poly Pier now operates as a marine research facility. At 3000 feet long, it provides students, faculty and researchers with unrivaled access to the marine environment of the Central Coast.

Avila Beach Pier is a picturesque wooden pier located in Avila Beach, a charming seaside town on the central coast of California. It extends into the Pacific Ocean. Olde Port Beach is the first beach you will find after crossing the bridge out of Avila and into Port San Luis. It has parking along the road and a ramp down to the sand.

The Point San Luis Lighthouse is the only surviving Prairie Victorian model lighthouse that remains in existence on the West Coast of the United States. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is being refurbished by the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers.
