Calaveras County is a county located in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. Its county seat is the town of San Andreas. The county is known for its gold rush history, natural attractions, and outdoor recreational activities. As of the 2010 census, the population was 45,292. The county seat is San Andreas. Angels Camp is the county's only incorporated city.

Pine Marten Campground is located in the Calveras Ranger District, at the east end of Lake Alpine Recreation Area in a timbered setting near several trailheads. It sits at an elevation of 7,400 feet on the east end of Lake Alpine within the Stanislaus National Forest. The forest lies between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite and boasts gorgeous views.

The Round Valley Sno-Park is the newest park in the Sno-Park system, opening in the winter of 2013. It is located Highway 207, 0.2 miles from Highway 4 within the Stanislaus National Forest. The Bear Valley Cross Country and Adventure Company is also located near Round Valley Sno-Park.

The Lake Alpine Recreation Area features a small, scenic reservoir within a granite basin surrounded by red fir and lodgepole pine forest; it is located just east of the community of Bear Valley on State Highway 4. Lake Alpine Recreation Area campgrounds include Silver Tip, West Shore, Pine Marten, Silver Valley and Backpackers campgrounds.

Sierra Nevada Logging Museum is located in Arnold, California offering a New Perspective on the History of Logging and lumbering in the Sierra Nevada. The museum dedicated to honoring the past generations and educating the future generations in logging.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is a state park of California, preserving two groves of giant sequoia trees. These groves include the Discovery Tree, also known as the Big Stump, the first Sierra redwood noted by Augustus T. Dowd in 1852. This area has been a major tourist attraction ever since, and is considered the longest continuously operated tourist facility in California.
