| The railway was originally built in 1901 to transport people up and down the hill, which was a fashionable residential area at the time. The railway was closed in 1969 due to financial problems and was dismantled and put in storage. After being restored and reinstalled in 1996, the railway reopened to the public and has since become a popular tourist attraction. The two cars, named Olivet and Sinai, carry passengers between Hill Street and California Plaza, providing a unique and nostalgic view of downtown Los Angeles. The railway has been featured in several movies, including "La La Land" and "500 Days of Summer", and is a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.
