Lagos is a historic and picturesque city and municipality at the mouth of Bensafrim River and along the Atlantic Ocean, in the Barlavento region of the Algarve, in southern Portugal. It has a population of about 31,000 people, which nearly doubles during the summer tourist season.
Algarve is the southernmost NUTS II region of continental Portugal. It has 467,495 permanent inhabitants in 2021 and incorporates 16 municipalities. The region has its administrative centre in the city of Faro. Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve's summer economy. Agricultural products of the region include fig, almond, orange, carob, olive, avocado and cork oak.
Faro is a municipality, the southernmost city and capital of the district of the same name, in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. It had an estimated population of 67,566 inhabitants in 2021. The Manuel Bivar Gardens are a beautiful reception area for visitors, where everything overlooks the marina, the Ria Formosa and the sea.
Armona Island is one of many islands of Algarve, Portugal. Armona is 9 kilometres (6 mi) in length, and from 0.1 to 1 km (0.1 to 0.6 mi) wide. It is accessible by regular 20-minute Ferry trips or even quicker water taxi from the waterfront in Olhão. The island is populated with a large number of beach houses and 5 cafe bars.
Ilha do Farol “Lighthouse Island” is the name given to the western side of a barrier island in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The eastern side has a different name (Ilha da Culatra), but shares the same continuous 6km-long (4 miles) stretch of sand. The northern side of the island is also sometimes called Hangares, after an old hangar.
