Colfax is a city in Placer County, California The population was 1,995 at the 2020 census. The town is named in honor of U.S. Vice President Schuyler Colfax (1869–73), a bronze statue of whom stands at Railroad Street and Grass Valley Street. This Gold Rush–era town is rich in trees, railroad history, and outdoor recreation.
The Colfax Area Historical Society and the Colfax Heritage Museum preserve the local history of Colfax, California, and the surrounding area, by collecting stories, photographs, and artifacts about the people and buildings in the Sierra foothills.
