The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is a former coal-mining complex located in Essen, Germany. It was one of the largest and most modern coal-mining facilities in the world during its operation. The complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.
The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex was built between 1927 and 1932 and was designed by the architects Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer. The complex consisted of several buildings, including a coal-washing plant, a coking plant, a coal-mine shaft tower, and administrative buildings.

The complex was closed in 1986 due to the decline of the coal industry in the Ruhr area. After its closure, the site underwent extensive restoration and renovation, and many of the buildings were converted into cultural and educational facilities.

Today, the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is a popular tourist attraction and cultural center. It is home to several museums, including the Ruhr Museum, which explores the history of the Ruhr area and the coal-mining industry. The complex also hosts a variety of events and exhibitions throughout the year, including concerts, art exhibitions, and cultural festivals.
