Tulum is an archaeological site located in the state of Quintana Roo on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It is situated about 130 km (81 miles) south of Cancun and 64 km (40 miles) south of Playa del Carmen. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya people and served as a major trading port for the region.
